Next Steps
This check-in opened up the discussion regarding students’ individual methods for centering themselves. Students began to share different strategies, from listening to music to casual walking, from exercise to playing the guitar.
While traditional meditation works for some, others insist they have their own methods. For Phase Two, we will participate in student-led workshops, providing the platform for students to share their own methods of grounding, focusing and centering. I will ask students to think about what helps to collect themselves when under stress. Additionally, students will reflect on the activities they enjoy doing that always makes them feel better and ready to tackle the challenges life may throw at them.
Students will then be given the option to volunteer, in pairs if desired, to lead a workshop on their personal method of meditation and mindfulness. Students participating will propose their method to me via email, along with a brief description and explanation as to why they think this method works. I will then supply resources, including scientific research, journals, studies and articles to support their method. Students will then conduct 3-5 minute presentations including the following:
Students will be encouraged to lead a workshop as an opportunity to share something personal that truly helps themselves.
